JOHNNY CASINO “Trade Winds”

Tras su disco del año pasado “Time and Time Again” Johnny Casino tiene un nuevo álbum “Trade Winds” que se publicará en Septiembre- Octubre de 2018.
El álbum se gestó tras una llamada telefónica del gran amigo de Johnny y ex miembro de Asteroid-B612 Kenny ‘Killer’ Watt, quien le preguntó a Johnny si tenía alguna idea o canción nueva que le gustaría grabar en Fremantle Western Australia. ¡La respuesta fue sí! Y Kenny se puso a formar una banda para grabar estas ideas.
WARREN HALL (Batería)(The Volcanics/Datura 4/The Drones) ha estado tocando con Johnny durante muchos años en vivo en Western Australia o en el estudio de grabación de muchas de las canciones de Johnny a lo largo de los años. Warren es un gran músico, orgánico, así que estuvo a bordo desde el principio. Kenny luego se acercó a MARTYN P CASEY (Bajo) (Nick Cave y The Bad Seeds / The Triffids / Grinderman) a quien Johnny había conocido un par de veces en sus viajes. Kenny le puso a Martyn algunas maquetas acústicas de las canciones de Johnny y Marty quedó impresionado, por lo que allí quedó montado el núcleo de la banda para este álbum,a los que se añadieron algunos amigos de la zona de Fremantle, como DOM MARIANI (The Stems / DM3 / Datura 4) – GREG HITCHCOCK (the Bamboos/You Am I/the Neptunes) – JOHNNY PHATOUROS (The Volcanics) – RICHARD LANE (The Stems) y las hermanas de Sydney CARRIE y JODI PHILLIS (The Clouds/The Boobytraps).

El álbum une imágenes y reflexiones de los días, personas y lugares en el espacio y el tiempo de Johnny, no hay ningún atisbo de ficción en este disco y al buen conocedor de los registros de Johnny no le sorprenderán. Honestidad y perspicacia, incluso si duele, y a ratos lo hace. Musicalmente creemos que este álbum llegará casi hasta a hablar con el oyente, más que cualquier otro álbum que haya grabado. A veces este disco te hará querer bailar, cantar o llorar, otras veces puedes sentirte nervioso. También te puedes sentir como si te estuvieses sumergiendo en una puesta de sol cuando, de repente, te arrasa un tren que va hacia el sur. El álbum fue grabado en dos tandas de cinco días. La banda se instaló en el piso del estudio de grabación y trabajó en las canciones/ideas de Johnny desde cero, probando diferentes sensaciones, tempos y diferentes arreglos hasta que sintieron que tenían la canción en su lugar correcto. Fue grabado con mucho cariño por Kenny Watt en Electric City Studio, en North Fremantle y luego mezclado en Killerwatt Studios Scarborough por Kenny y masterizado en Detroit por Jim Diamond

El LP será una coedición entre LA VILA NOVA RECORDINGS (España), BEAST RECORDS (Francia) y FOLC RECORDS (España) y el CD saldrá publicado por el emblemático sello australiano CITADEL RECORDS.

Following up from last year´s album ´time and time again´ Johnny Casino has a new album ´trade winds´ set for release Sept/Oct 2018.
The album began its life after a phone call from Johnny´s great friend and former member of Asteroid B612 Kenny ´Killer´ Watt, Kenny asked Johnny if he had any new ideas or songs he´d like to record in Fremantle Western Australia. The answer was yes!! And Kenny set about putting a band together to record these ideas.
WARREN HALL (The Volcanics/Datura 4/The Drones)(Drums) has been playing with Johnny for many years either playing live in Western Australia or in the recording studio on many of Johnny´s songs over the year , Warren is such a great organic musician so he was onboard from the start, Kenny then approached MARTYN P CASEY (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds/The Triffids)(Bass Guitar) whom Johnny had met a few times in his travels, Kenny played Martyn some of Johnny´s acoustic ´sketches´ of the songs and Marty was in, so there in lie´s the core of the band for this album, add in some of Fremantle´s locals including DOM MARIANI (the Stems/DM3) – GREG HITCHCOCK (the Bamboos/You Am I) – JOHNNY PHATOUROS (The Volcanics) – RICHARD LANE (The Stems) and Sydney´s singing sisters CARRIE and JODI PHILLIS (The Clouds/The Boobytraps) and you have Johnny Casino ´trade winds´
The album conjures images of reflection of days, people and places in Johnny´s space and time, no fiction here on this record and if you know Johnny´s records that would not surprise you, honest and insightful even if it hurts and at times it does. Musically we believe this album is ¨sonically speaking¨ more so than any other album, at times it makes you feel like you are drifting off into the sunset and then all of a sudden you have been hit by a south bound train! The album was recorded in two four day bursts and the band would set up on the recording room floor together and work on Johnny´s songs/ideas from the ground up, trying different feels, tempo´s and different arrangements until they felt they had the song in its right place. Lovingly recorded by Kenny Watt at Electric City Studio in North Fremantle and then mixed at Killerwatt Studios Scarborough by Kenny. Mastered in Detroit by Jim Diamond.

The vinyl album will be released as a joint venture by LA VILA NOVA RECORDINGS Spain, BEAST RECORDS France and FOLC RECORDS Spain. The CD release will be by CITADEL RECORDS Australia.
